Essential Oils - Lavender

One of the well known essential oils is Lavender. It is a commonly grown flowering plant that is suitable for many climates. It is steam distilled from the flowering top, but can also be dried and used in sachets, soaps, etc. (Although the dried version will not be as medicinally beneficial, it is still good at assisting with relaxation.)

Lavender has been shown to perform as an anti-depressant, antihistamine, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and as a sedative. Lavender is also very beneficial to promoting the healing of burns, scrapes, or cuts. It can also be used for general relaxation, and insomnia.

Lavender is one of the few oils that is recommended "safe" for applying directly to the skin. Please remember however that essential oils are HIGHLY CONCENTRATED and could cause adverse skin effects if not used properly. If applying directly to the skin, do so in moderation.

If there is only one essential oil to have in your house, I would recommend it to be Lavender. It has many benefits, and is safe for everyone to use.

For more information on essential oils, check out these books:

Reference Guide for Essential Oils- by Connie and Alan Higley

The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy- by Valerie Ann Worwood

*Any book by Valerie Ann Worwood will provide excellent information on essential oils!

Thanks for taking the time to read this post!
What are essential oils? How do we use them?

What are essential oils and how can we use them?

Essential oils are defined as highly concentrated oils derived (through various methods) from plants, flowers, bark, shrubs, trees, roots, bushes, herbs, and seeds.

These concentrated oils are believed to have healing benefits to them, as well as aromatic properties. (This is the reason that we have chosen to use only pure essential oils for scenting our products.)

Essential oils can be added to your bath, your personal care products, candles, etc. The possibilities are endless! Some essential oils can be applied directly to the body. The use of essential oils in any of these ways is considered "aromatherapy".

If you have any questions about the use of essential oils, please feel free to contact us! Make sure to return for our next topic to learn more about specific essential oils and their healing benefits.

-Jackee

All of these things are beneficial to your overall health, but we shouldn't stop there!

Have you looked at the ingredients in your favorite bottle of lotion recently? How many words can you not pronounce, or you can't understand? We take for granted that our lotions, soaps, household cleaners, etc. are all safe. But are they really? Could you be feeling run down or sick all the time because of the chemicals in your skin care products?

Every day we slather on lotions, body butters, face creams, etc, all without considering what we are putting on our skin. Are they loaded with artificial scents and colors? What about chemically based perservatives? Are they petroleum based? Do they contain nut oils that could cause allergic reactions?

These are all things to consider!Remember that anything you apply to your skin, is absorbed into your body!

If you have concerns about any of the ingredients in your current products, or would like more information on the benefits of using all natural products, feel free to contact us!

For specific information on product ingredients, check out this web resource:

www.cosmeticdatabase.org
